With NHL Free Agency getting closer players from their current clubs think about their futures if they want to stay and extend with the team they are playing for or try and test out waters and entertains deals with other franchises.
For the Vegas Golden Knights and General Manager George McPhee gives the franchise their first opportunity in the organizations history to talk with NHL unrestricted free agents.
According to NHL the Golden Knights are to be given an exclusive 48 hour window in which they will be able to open up contract negotiations will players of interest during the NHL Expansion Draft that is scheduled to take place on June 21st.
By having the Golden Knights talk with players of interest in the 2 day exclusive period gives them a jump in snagging up the existing talent from around the league.
However there is a condition of this exclusive window and that is once Vegas and the player of interest agrees to sign on with the club that will nullify any expansion selection from the former players franchise.
General Manager George McPhee highlighted the opportunity that the franchise will have during this exclusive window.
“We will have a window to talk to free agents,” McPhee said “And we will talk to free agents to determine their interest level. At this point, it’s hard to know if any free agents will be signed. There will have to be a meeting of the minds between both parties, to see if it’s a nice fit. You don’t know what will happen until you start making those calls.” GMGM
When the exclusive window closes and no more players are signed on with Vegas they will have to wait to until the official free agent frenzy period opens to sign more.
