More reaction from today’s announcement with Bill Foley and Lotus Sports Network.
For Foley his primary objective when he went into finding his radio partner for the franchise is to make the Golden Knights the team of “The Rockies”.
He outlined that his long term plans to reach out to the overall market region that was granted to them by the NHL. The areas that were authorized by the league are Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah.
Having those five states as their geographic area gives sports fans the chance to hear the Golden Knights. This goes in support of Foley’s “Team of Rockies” vision.
Smaller market towns that will be able get Golden Knights radio broadcasts are Reno, NV, Provo, UT, Boise, ID and southern towns in Montana which Foley made mentioned of as hockey crazy.
The importance of including the ESPN Deportes side is that Las Vegas has a huge Hispanic & Latino population. According to the Census Bureau the population percentage of both Hispanic & Latino’s living in Vegas is 33.2% at approx of 184,000.
He pointed out that the majority portion of the Hispanic and Latino community supports soccer however Foley believes that when you get the kids involved with the youth programs that the children will have that conversion influence for their parents to get on board and support the Golden Knights.
Vegas Junior Golden Knights Program:
Foley provided an update regarding the long term community outreach with the Nevada Storm integration into their youth hockey program initiative in both Vegas and Henderson. He highlighted that the Golden Knights organization will operate the 5 sheets of ice in Vegas which includes the Las Vegas Ice Center, Sobe Ice Arena and their practice facility in Summerlin, NV.
Down the road the Golden Knights organizations plans to add two addition sheets of ice in Henderson that will bring the total sheets operated by the hockey club to 7. In the NHL world many franchises operate multi locations in their respected communities that enables them to be more embedded with their fans.
