Today I had the pleasure in speaking with Golden Knights Founding 75 Member and Professional Poker Star Daniel Negreanu to talk about all things Vegas Hockey.
Daniel Negreanu was born in Toronto, Ontario Canada on July 26th, 1974 by Annie and Constantin. Both parents are Romanian immigrants who moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada to enable their kids to have a better lifestyle.
When Daniel grew up to the age of 16 he was hit with the Poker bug and began to embrace his love of playing cards. The feeling of dealing with numbers and probability thirsted his passion for Poker.
Being a Toronto Maple Leafs fan was also part of Negreanu’s upbringing.
With only 1 credit left to complete his high education Negreanu chose to pursue his love of Poker vs. completing and getting his diploma.
He established himself early in playing career picking up a series of wins along the way. When he was of age to play in Nevada’s thriving Metropolis of Las Vegas he headed west to continue with his development in playing Poker at the worlds biggest stage in the business.
As any rising star in the Poker business Negreanu became broke and moved back home to Toronto to re-establish himself in the game. After a series of ups and downs for Daniel and fighting thru the adversity things finally aligned themselves and got him back on track to the winning side of the game.
The secret for Daniel was that he was able to penetrate the Poker wall in Las Vegas by taking himself to classroom where he put his nose to grind and being an excellent student with countless hours of studying the of game and by doing that his career took off.
Negreanu took what he learned and utilized his talents in the Eastern Circuit at Foxwoods where he picked up the nickname that would staple his name in business as the “Kid Poker” during the 1997-1998 Poker season and captured his first ever WSOP Bracelet.
Several years later he won his second in 2003, he also captured the S.H.O.E Bracelet for his all around play on Seven Card Stud, Hold’ Em, Omaha Eights or Better and Stud Eights or Better.
Since his early victories in the Poker World Negreanu has established Vegas as his home base operations. Over the course of his career he’s been able rack up over $21 Million in life time earnings and 6 WSOP Bracelets (His own version of the Stanley Cup).
In 2014 the talk of bringing a professional sports team Las Vegas picked up some serious steam by getting a ticket drive started thru the support of the NHL for the not yet named Vegas hockey group.
In doing so they stepped up its “Found 75” membership core featuring 6-Time WSOP Champion Daniel Negreanu as one of their community ambassadors.
Below is my complete interview session with Daniel Negreanu that talks about all things hockey from his community involvement with the Golden Knights, the NHL’s future, the future of professional sports in Vegas, to the Stanley Cup Playoffs .
