Today the Vegas Golden Knights and General Manager George McPhee announced that they have signed KHL Free Agent Vadim Shipachyov to a 2 year NHL Contract with AAV of $4.5 million.
Shipachyov comes from the SKA Saint Petersburg hockey club of the Kontinental Hockey League (Russia). The same team in which has former NHLer Ilya Kovalchuk as well as former Detroit Red Wings wizard man Pavel Datsyuk.
Vegas Golden Knights GM George McPhee had this to say about Shipachyov and what he brings to the organization.
“Vadim is a highly skilled playmaker who has had an impressive career in the Kontinental Hockey League,” said Vegas Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee. “He has won two KHL championships, has been among the league leaders in scoring the last two seasons and has enjoyed success at the international level for Team Russia. We believe he can be an impact player in the NHL.” VGK George McPhee added.
Right now Shipachyov is playing in the 2017 IIHF World Championships for Team Russia in Cologne, Germany. Vegas Golden Knights Head Coach Gerard Gallant will also be in Cologne to be part of Team Canada’s coaching staff.
Gallant will get the opportunity to witness close up and personal to the newest member of the Golden Knights family has to offer.

The 30-year-old forward finished third in the KHL scoring race this season with 76 points on 26 goals and 50 assists in 50 games. The 50 assists were the second most in the league. He also had 19 points on four goals and 15 assists in 17 games during the KHL playoffs, helping SKA Saint Petersburg win the league championship for the second time in his career (2017 and 2015).
Scouting Report On Shipachyov
The scouts have identified Shipachyov as a highly skilled centerman that has an excellent IQ with on-ice vision. He is also very good skater with a fluid stride on the ice. Shipachyov also provides in his game great offensive instinct and likes to have the puck on his stick.
This is a reminder to former Red Wings wizard man Datsyuk who also loved to have the puck on stick during any in game situation.
Shipachyov brings with him to Vegas some prestigious Team Russia accomplishments that includes a bronze in 2016, silver medal in 2015, and gold from the 2014 tournament.
During the 2016 IIHF World Championship tournament he lead the way with 6 goals and 12 assists at 18 points.
His KHL career spans across 445 games split between Saint Petersburg and his hometown team of Severstal Cherepovets. In those 445 games Shipachyov recorded 137 goals and added 275 assists for 412 points.
