With the recent signing of KHL Free Agent Vadim Shipachyov to the Golden Knights there have been rumblings in the hockey world that his former teammate on SKA St. Petersburg Evgeni Dadonov could he be next and come to Vegas.
Shipachyov singed a 2-year deal worth $9 million over the course of two seasons. In yesterdays conference call with reporters General Manager George McPhee confirmed that Vadim’s contract does not have any NTC or NMC associated with it.
His 2-year deal has an AAV of $4.5 million per season.
Back in February the rumblings surrounding the KHL. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman had this to say regarding the Russian powerhouse hockey league.
“Hearing there is more than the usual amount of scouting going on with KHL players. That league is considering going with fewer teams next season, so NHL clubs are readying for the possibility of some extra players being available. Just like last year, the bigger names are St. Petersburg’s Evgeny Dadonov (56 points in 48 games) and Vadim Shipachev (68 points in 45 games), but it will cost millions to bring them over.” Elliotte Friedman said.
For Dadonov he comes with prior NHL experience in particular he was originally selected by the Florida Panthers during the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
The 28 year old was selected by the Panthers organization in the 3rd round at 71st overall. His brief NHL career consisted of 55 regular games with Dadonov scoring 10 goals and recorded 10 assists.
He has also seen time in the American Hockey League with the San Antonio Rampage, Rochester Americans, and Charlotte Checkers. His AHL total games played were 155 games with 33 goals and 55 assists to his credit.
His KHL career however he seen more success as he produced 112 goals and 128 assists over 311 games. Dadonov also brings to the table 71 games of KHL playoffs experience with and impressive 34 goals 26 assists for 60 points (that’s a 0.86 points average per game.)
McPhee did echo in yesterday’s conference call that Vegas has already reached out to the Dadonov camp.
“We’ve had conversations with him.” McPhee echoed on Dadonov, “Had 66 points in 53 games this season for the Kontinental Hockey League champions. “But I don’t know if he’s willing to come over and sign with us or another NHL team.” McPhee continued.
On the International Hockey Stage Shipachyov and Dadonov both have been amazing to watch. This Russian pairing of these two during 2016 World Hockey Championship saw Shipachyov and Dadonov finishing in the top 3 in the scoring department (collecting 19 and 13 points, respectively).
Fellow teammate as well as linemate, Artemi Panarin, came away with 15 points of his own during the 2016 World Championships.
If George McPhee and the Vegas Golden Knights could somehow do miracles work it would be incredible by the expansion organization. Both Shipachyov and Dadonov would be a dangerous one two punch in the NHL.
