Today Vegas Golden Knights forward Vadim Shipachyov of Team Russia took on Team Latvia in game 6 of the IIHF Worlds tournament. Entering into the game against Latvia, Russia had 4-1-0-0 record with 14 points to their credit.
In his last four games in the 2017 IIHF World Championship tournament, Shipachyov has been getting it done in a huge way for his team with 2 goals and 8 assists before his game against Latvia.
His points-scoring streak continued vs. Team Latvia on Monday when he finally registered his first assist of the game after he had several good looks in the 1st period.
In the games middle frame Shipachyov nearly connected for his 3rd goal in the tournament but was stopped Latvia netminder Ivars Punnenovs.
Shipachyov 11th point of the tournament came on the man advantage in the third period when he setup shop in his usual office space behind the icing line as he and Nikita Gusev teamed up on Anton Belov‘s goal and made a 5-0 lead.
That score would hold as Team Russia defeat Team Latvia to an easy 5-0 victory. Russia leapfrogged over Team USA in Group A with 5-1-0-0 with 17 points.
As it stands after today’s 5-0 win over Latvia, Team Russia leads the entire tournament in the goal differential department at 32 GF vs. 5 GA at +27 in both groups.
With his 11th point in the tournament, Shipachyov moved into a 3-way tie in the scoring department with Colorado Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon, and Tampa Bay Lightning forward and Russian teammate Nikita Kucherov.
Shipachyov played an overall a good game throughout all three periods with some good looks. He had 1 SOG and was even on the night with a TOI of 15:22 which is over 2 minutes less ice time from his last game against Team Slovakia.
In 33 IIHF World Championship games, Shipachyov has 15 goals and 30 assists with 45 points thru today. This brings his points per game to 1.36.
Tomorrow Shipachyov and Team Russia have a big game ahead of them against Team USA in the last of preliminary round play.
