It is being reported by’s Staff Writer Mike G. Morreale that the Vegas Golden Knights organization is gearing up to participate in the hockey clubs first ever NHL Combined since being opened for business on March 1st.

The Scouting Combined for the NHL is taking place on May 29-June 3 in Buffalo, NY. Buffalo last year held the 2016 Entry Draft. For this year’s draft it will be hosted by the 6-time Stanley Cup Champions Chicago Blackhawks.

For the NHL Combined this is where hopefuls that want to come into the league the opportunity to showcase their strength and skills as well as for the Golden Knights the chance to find out if those players would be an ideal choice for the organization.

Players from this years draft class are slated to participate in the NHL Combined. Representing the Golden Knights at the combined will be Scott Luce who is the Director of Amatuer Scouting for the hockey club.

“It’s a brand-new process for all the scouts on board, and you’re looking at [the] best available [player] that could deliver the best asset possible to the organization,” Luce said. “Whether that’s a forward, defenseman or a goalie may vary with each selection. We’ll look at the best asset at that draft slot. That’s what you’re looking to add.” Per

The best available mindset is what all General Managers are faced with when it comes to selecting a player in the draft. If their player that they originally targeted to chosen and gets picked up by someone elese they will need a back up plan and this concept is used heavily particularly in the 1st round.

With Luce overseeing the process he brings to Vegas some very good experience from his last posting with the Florida Panthers a former expansion team in 90’s era. He’s had the opportunity in selecting some high end talent ranging from forward’s Alexsander Borkov to Vincent Trochek.

In addition to the forwards he also selected blueliners Aaron Exblad and Michael Matheson.

All those players that were mentioned above have all played a valuable role with the Panthers hockey team.

The talent in this years draft class in particular with the 1st round of selectees is headlined by Nolan Patrick and Nico Hischier. Practically the majority of the players available this year will be projects that need development before they take on a role in the NHL during an 82 game season.

This gives Luce the first chance to see the new upcoming talent at this year’s NHL Combined.
