Summerlin–Yesterday in the evening I had the honor and pleasure of interviewing Vegas Golden Knights Head Coach Gerard Gallant at the organizations “Glass Seats Reveal” event at T-Mobile Arena.
This was, in fact, Gallant’s first ever visit to the arena since being hired. The event gave Gallant the opportunity to get himself very familiar with where he will be spending a good portion of his time throughout the preseason and regular season and maybe, maybe during the Stanley Cup Playoffs in their first year in the NHL.
First off I wanted to say that coming from my point of view, Gallant is a great person who loves the game with fire, grit, and passion. The Golden Knights players that are going to be selected next week are going to get a a real treat with having Gallant behind the bench this coming season.
Having him lead the coaching staff with Vegas heading into their first season is going to be exciting due to him being a former player himself, with that his relationship with the player’s he’ll be able to provide major insight to his squad when they go thru their ups and down’s as a unified unit on the ice.
With that it’s been an interesting journey for him over the past several months with the misfortune of being fired along with his Assistant Coach Mike Kelly by the Florida Panthers organization last November due to a 11-10-1 record. Kelly recently joined the Coaching Staff this week past week.
In my interview with Head Coach Gallant, we chatted about what the journey has been for him since being let go by Florida to being hired on with Vegas.
We also talked about his participation in the recent IIHF World Championship that took place in place in Paris, France and Cologne, Germany, as well as working with Team Canada again.
Another thing we discussed was the recent signing of Golden Knights forward Vadim Shipachyov who also participated in the IIHF Worlds Tournament for Team Russia.
The skill set he provides in particular to his playmaking asset on special teams and where he hinted at where he could be slotted into the top 6 unit along with the power play.
To the interactions he’ll be having with Shipachyov during training camp that is coming up in September.
Below is the audio transcript from my one on one with Head Coach Gallant.
