Las Vegas–Today I had the chance to speak with Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore and backup goaltender Calvin Pickard to their take on how training camp has progressed for them and the game against the San Jose Sharks from the other night that resulted in a 5-2 loss.
For defenseman Theodore, he’s one of the younger blueliners with the Golden Knights that’s fighting for a roster spot along with Jake Bischoff.
“I felt like, I felt pretty good in those games and to get back in game shape for sure.” Said Theodore.
Theodore talked about the defensive stockpile that Vegas has used throughout the course of training camp and building chemistry with the fellow blueliners.
“I think everyone has chemistry, we’ve played in two practice groups, had a chance to play with everyone, I feel everyone can play and everyone can play well for sure.” Says Theodore.
With Theodore kind of in the category of an NHL veteran defense, he immediately pointed out prospect Bischoff and what he saw in his game during camp.
“What I saw from Bischoff, he’s a good smart moving defenseman, I feel like he’s a good player and I’m kind of looking forward to seeing that moving forward.” Thedore on Bischoff.

Locker Room Interview With Defenseman Shea Theodore
Pickard recently had his first start in preseason action against the powerhouse San Jose Sharks the other night and had the chance to catch up to see how things are going for him in camp given that he’s going be Marc-André-Fleury‘s backup come the regular season.
“It’s been good, it’s been 8, 9 days now its good to get more and more comfortable every day and it was good to get into a game the other night and hope for it’s going to be a good year.” Pickard replied.
He filled us in on how the game in San Jose unfolded.
“It was a good start, there was some flow in the 1st period, there were a lot of power plays that San Jose took advantage of in the 2nd period and we didn’t quit in the 3rd and gave us a chance to score a couple goals and we got a lucky one there to make it 5-2, but some good things for sure, some areas we need to improve on and that’s what preseason is for.” Explained Pickard.
Pickard talked about working with 3-time Stanley Cup Champion Fleury during training camp practices.
“It’s awesome, he’s a great guy, has a great track record so I’m going to try to take it all in this year so I’m excited to be in tandem with him.” Pickard on Fleury
“I think that I’ll come as the season goes on for sure but just getting to know a bunch of the guys so far is a privilege for me and he’s a world-class person that goes a long way in this league.” More from Pickard on Fleury

The highlight from Head Coach Gerard Gallant’s post-training camp session presser that he confirmed Fleury is the started for Vegas against the Ducks tomorrow night at Honda Center.
Fleury has been practicing for the entire part of training camp while other goaltenders played in the last three preseason for the Golden Knights.
