Las Vegas–Tonight the Vegas Golden Knights welcomed to town the Colorado Avalanche for the 2nd preseason home game at T-Mobile Arena.
The 1st goal of the game did not come until the late stages of the opening period when former Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues forward Nail Yakupov put the Avalanche on the board at the 16:24 mark.
Yakupov’s marker was courtesy of a nice feed by Alexander Kerfoot who found the Russian sniper in the slot for his 1st goal in preseason action and Golden Knights goaltender Marc-André Fleury.
Less than 3 minutes later, Colorado went back to work and this time it was Sven Andrighetto who connected with defenseman Erik Johnson to give the Avalanche a 2-0 lead with less than a minute in the 1st.
This would be Andrighetto’s 2nd goal in preseason action for the Avalanche.
For Vegas, their 1st goal of the game came in the middle frame where defenseman Colin Miller cut the Avs lead in half and made it a 2-1 game. Miller converted a crisp pass by Vadim Shipachyov and blasted a one-timer past Semyon Varlamov at the 6:20 mark.
The Golden Knights defenseman Miller recorded his 1st goal of the preseason off that play with Shipachyov.
In the 3rd period, the Colorado Avalanche restored their 2 goal cushion when Mikko Rantanen ripped a wrist shot past Fleury to make it a 3-1 score for the visitors.
Rantanen’s 3rd goal of the preseason was made by a tic toe pass game from Nathan MacKinnon and Andrighetto at 6:33 mark in the 3rd.
Roughly 5 minutes later in the 3rd, Vegas brought the contest to a 1 goal game when defenseman Shea Theodore connected with forward Cody Eakin as the former Ducks blueliner fired a wrister shot past Varlamov and made it a 3-2 score.
This would be Theodore’s 1st goal of the preseason.
The visiting Avalanche squad would however have the last word of the night as they scored their 4th of the game when Tyson Jost trickled the puck past Fleury at the 16:53 mark.
Colorado’s 4-2 lead would hold up as the Avalanche earned a preseason split with the Vegas Golden Knights. The Golden Knights beat the Avs in Denver last week by a 4-1 final.
After tonight’s game, the Golden Knights record in preseason action would be 3-2-1. Their final preseason home game is this Sunday vs. the San Jose Sharks.
