Las Vegas–Today has finally come where the Vegas Golden Knights organization and hockey fans have been waiting for a long time as the franchise takes on the Dallas Stars to open their inaugural season in club history at American Airlines Center.
For the Golden Knights, they finished off their preseason with a 3-3-1 record while the Dallas Stars completed theirs with a 3-3 record.
Today the Golden Knights team play their 1st ever regular season game that counts towards inaugural campaign record.
Last season, the Stars finished dead last in the NHL’s Central Division with 79 points after posting a miserable 34-37-11 performance. This was a significant drop from their previous in the 2015-16 campaign where they earned 109 points.
Dallas’s top goal scores last year were forwards Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin who each finished the year with 26 goals each.
Vegas’s defense will keep an eye out when either Benn or Seguin come out on the ice for their respective shift.
The stars also added forwards Martin Hanzal and Alexander Radulov to their roster which another thing the Golden Knights need to be aware of.
Hanzal scored 20 goals and 19 assists for Arizona and Minnesota last season while Radulov produced 18 goals and 36 assists with Montreal last year.
The big question for the Golden Knights is will James Neal be in the lineup to play in the season opener for Vegas. Neal has been skating with the team over the course of training as his right hand continues to recover. He was placed on injured reserve Thursday but that was retroactive before training camp.
So the good news here working in Neal’s favor is that he can be activated at any time.
With the recent Vegas Shooting that took place this past Sunday at the Route 91 Harvest Festival players of the Golden Knights were out in the community earlier this week with the first responders and victims who were affected by this horrific tragedy.
The players will need to keep their emotions in check and represent the city of Vegas today with a strong performance on the ice today against the Dallas Stars.
Another question for the Golden Knights is who will officially be playing when the players hit the ice at American Airlines Center. Over the past few days, Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee made a series of roster moves.
Those roster moves included sending forwards Alex Tuch and Vadim Shipachyov along with defenseman Shea Theodore down to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. They also place goalie Calvin Pickard on waivers and claimed Malcolm Subban off of waivers from Boston.
McPhee also signed forward Brandon Pirri to a 1-year 2-way deal.
The likely starter between the pipes for the Golden Knights is goaltender Marc-André Fleury.
For the Vegas Golden Knights, there is still time on the clock for them work some last minutes roster changes before tonights contest against the Dallas Stars.
