Las Vegas–Earlier today we caught up with Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Brad Hunt and forward Cody Eakin to get their take on what has been a historic early season run as the youngest team in the league continues making history in huge ways.
Last night was a bit of crazy game for the Golden Knights as they were ahead in the 3rd period vs Buffalo with 3 goal lead that eventually evaporated to 4-4 to force a decisive frame of overtime hockey.
Defenseman Hunt highlighted with us on how the team responded to their 3rd-period breakdown and coming away from the game with a 5-4 victory.
“I mean obviously we’ve got a little bit of penalty trouble at the end, for the most part, we played a really good game were happy with the outcome we got two points and ultimately that’s all that matters.” Hunt said.
For the Golden Knights, they’ve been relying heavily on forward James Neal in the goal-scoring department as of late as he currently has 6 on the season, but last night it was the David Perron show who stepped up big for the guys and recorded 2 including the game-winner in the overtime period and Hunt pointed out the character and depth the team has.
“I just show’s the tremendous character and the great people that we have on our team and great players we have on our team, to a lot of fun the players there always every shift your playing with great players so it’s been really fun.” Says Hunt.
Hunt commented on how much of a difference maker forward Alex Tuch has been for the Golden Knights since being called from the Chicago Wolves over the weekend.
“It shows that he got a really bright future he’s obviously got a big body he know’s how to use it already so like I said he’s got really bright future, he’s a great kid too.” Hunt on Golden Knights forward Alex Tuch.

Post Practice Reaction From Defenseman Brad Hunt
Eakin talked to us about the run that the Golden Knights have been since the start of the season.
“It’s been a lot fun were playing pretty good hockey so there’s lots of room to improve but it’s nice jumping out to a start like that with these points you know sometimes you desperately needed it later on in the season so its good the group is coming together to start, confidence, team building, things like that and allowed us to just play the game.” Eakin said on Vegas’s historic 5-1-0 start in their inaugural season.
With Eakin, he mentioned how the guys have been playing over the short span of the 1st season.
“I think everyone’s playing loose and having fun and playing the right way, playing fast and you know that’s kind of a big strength of our team and when we don’t give teams a second to breathe for 60 minutes it’s hard for any team to play so we’ve been doing a good job playing to our strengths, everyone’s been chipping in and so far we’ve seen some results.” Eakin replied.
In just two regular season games played with the Golden Knights, forward Eakin talked about what centerman Vadim Shipachyov brings to the table for the team.
“He’s really poised, he’s smart he thinks the game very well it looks like, you know I think as he keeps playing he’s going to get more comfortable have puck on stick a lot more, create lots of energy and offense.” Eakin on Shipachyov.

Check out our post-practice presser video of Head Coach Gerard Gallant as he updated us on the current state of the team from last nights 5-4 win against Buffalo.
One of the things that Gallant complimented is that he likes what he seeing Shipachyov game over the course of two games and also acknowledged the work that he’s putting in to get up to speed with the team.
