Las Vegas–Earlier today at “City National Arena” Vegas Golden Knights Head Coach Gerard Gallant spoke on how the team has been playing lately and the success that’s behind the franchises 10-1-1 record in the month of December.
Before the presser was underway, Gallant mentioned that Jonathan Marchessault took the day off from practice and that he’ll be back out tomorrow with his teammates.
Since the beginning of the season till now, the Golden Knights have put together a string of at least a 5 game winning streak together three times with the most recent one being an NHL record by a first year team at 6.
This has put Vegas under a microscope around the league with the way they are winning games particularly in the month of December which has been for the club their best segment of the season thus far.
“Well it’s always to win and we played real good hockey, the last month we played unbelievable hockey, we played really well, keeping the puck out of our net were scoring a few goals and I like the way were playing, were battling hard and when you win hockey games it’s fun.” Gallant mentioned.
For Head Coach Gallant, he is not surprised to the performance of his team lately and how teams are chasing them in the standings.
“No it doesn’t because we played a lot of good teams the last well, we played a lot of good teams all year long but the last month there was a lot of the Nashville’s those type of teams, the Tampa Bay’s, now those teams were playing.” Said Gallant
The Golden Knights were very successful on their quick two game California road trip, defeating the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 and the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in overtime and in both those games the guys played very hard against the two SoCal Pacific Division teams.
“You know you go for a road trip for two big division rivals, you play hard, you play well, so I mean every game we play it’s not who were playing it’s about how we want to play get better get more confidence.” Gallant continued.
Last night it was a long time coming for Golden Knights forward Brendan Leipsic as he scored his first goal of the season with Vegas against the LA Kings.
With Leispsic he’s been getting increased ice time with the Golden Knights and this in part with how well he’s been playing so Head Coach Gallant has rewarded him for the work he’s put in.
“I think he’s played better, I mean he’s played well, he’s competed, the line’s played real well, the last couple of games, the last couple of games they scored key goals for us, Leipsic’s goal put us up 2-1, it’s a line that plays well, works hard and the more they play well the more they’re going to play.” Gallant on Leispic’s performance as of late and the Cody Eakin line.
In terms of positioning in the standing’s with a 25-9-2 record so far, the Golden Knights know that they have this target on their back as being one of those teams to beat in the NHL.
“Well I think teams look at it and say this team’s winning every night, I mean this team’s a good hockey team, they’re playing well, right now they’re top in the division, top in the conference so teams definitely know we got a good hockey team.” Gallant on the Golden Knights position in the standings.
