“A Dream Come True” For Deryk Engelland As The Vegas Golden Knights Lock Him Up For 1 More Year
Las Vegas–Today as the Vegas Golden Knights embark on their 4 game road trip, General Manager George McPhee made the announcement the organization has extended defenseman Deryk Engelland to a 1-year contract extension.
His new 1-year extension is worth $1.5 million for the 2018-19 season. The AAV of his new contract is $2.5 mil which includes a $1 million dollar performance bonus kicker.
Engelland has been a community favorite among the VegasBorn fans and was very inspirational on opening night with his “We Are VegasStrong” keynote speech that led to the team winning the contest against the Arizona Coyotes 5-2.

It was in the home opener where he recorded his first goal in a Golden Knights uniform with less than 5 minutes into the game. The crowd “The Fortress” erupted after Engelland scored.

On the road trip when Vegas faced the Toronto Maple Leafs, Engelland scored the game tying goal in the third period that brought it to a 3-3 game.
Engelland Second Goal Of The Season For Vegas
In the 3-2 shootout loss vs the Carolina Hurricanes, Engelland recorded his third goal of the season in the middle frame of that contest just 1:07 into the period.

For the 35-year-old native from Edmonton, AB, Engelland has called Las Vegas home for many years since the days he used to be a member of the then Wrangles ECHL franchise.
“Super excited. From the expansion draft to signing one year, that’s your goal going in, to get an extension. For me to be able to play another year here at home, that’s a dream come true.” Engelland said on signing his one year extension with the Golden Knights.
This season with the Golden Knights, Engelland recorded 13 points with 3 goals and 13 assists thru 41 games.
He has also blocked 83 shots this season which is right behind fellow blueliner Brayden McNabb. Engelland is currently tied for 28th in the league.
The veteran blueliner is excited about getting the opportunity to play another year in Las Vegas and the group of players that he has bonded with.
“Amazing, the summer has been a whirlwind with everything that was going on and stuff. Settling in with the guys here. We’ve got a great group and that goes a long way, right from the top down. I’m excited to be here, to be a part of this team for another year with the guys.” Says Engelland
With the roots that Engelland has established in the community and his family being here, he’ll be able to see them more often.
“I was excited, like I said that’s your goal going into the season. Especially on a UFA is to get something done sooner rather than later. I’m getting a little older now and to be able to stay here at home and play another year, that’s your whole goal going into the season and I couldn’t be more happy.” Engelland mentioned.
For the Golden Knights, this team has come together very quickly and the chemistry that they have shown over the course of the season makes you think that these guys have played together for a long time.
“I think right from the get-go we gelled together as a team. We’ve got a lot of character in that room, great leaders, great young guys coming up. Every night when we’re playing, we’re 20 men deep and everyone’s going.” Engelland replied.
This team, has bought in with the next man up mentality and when some one dries up or is struggling on either offense or defense there’s always another player picking up slack and carrying the load.
“If someone’s not contributing, someone’s picking up the slack. It’s a team effort, it’s been fun and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season here.” Engelland mentioned.
