Las Vegas–With the Vegas Golden Knights playing into their the second half of the season, teams start to look at where they could use an upgrade at whether its on offense or defense.
For the Golden Knights they could use an improvement at the third line center position in how Cody Eakin has been producing for Vegas this year.
This season, Eakin has 6 goals and 12 assists thru 42 games and is a -2. When we did the Mid-Term Grades for the Golden Knights Bottom 6 Forwards, we gave Eakin a grade that we felt based on his performance, he earned was a B- rating.
These numbers by Eakin are not entirely bad all things considered, they are however down in his career lows since playing in the National Hockey League.
Down in the farm with the Golden Knights AHL affiliate the Chicago Wolves, center Brandon Pirri has been having a great season in the Windy City. Thru 32 games with the Wolves he has scored 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points (.94 points per game).
Pirri is currently the Wolves leader in goals scored ahead of Teemu Pulkkinen and Tomas Hyka who both have 11 goals each. In terms of assists with Chicago he ranks 5th overall. He also has 6 power play goals to his credit along with 5 assists on the man advantage.
While being with the Wolves this season as it currently stands right now among active skaters with the club, Pirri shot percentage rating is ranked 4th on the team at 13.5%, Hyka has a much better rating at 17.2% which puts him the lead with Chicago.
With Pirri he’s played under current Golden Knights Head Coach Gerard Gallant before when he was with the Florida Panthers. Under Gallant he skated in 101 games with the Panthers that spans from the 2014-15 and 2015-2016 seasons before being dealt to the Ducks.
In his short stint with the Panthers playing for Gallant he scored 33 goals added 15 assists for 48 points and was a +2.
Gallant was recently interviewed by John Dietz with the DailyHerald on the performance of Pirri this season playing with the Wolves.
“He’s had a real good year,” Gallant said when Vegas came to play the Hawks on Jan. 5. “He’s going to get an opportunity in the NHL again for sure. We’ve been pretty healthy all year long, knock on wood. But he’s a player that’s definitely on the radar.” Said Gallant to John Dietz of the DailyHerald
With the work that Pirri has put in down in the American League he hopes to get the opportunity to play in the NHL once again.
When the time comes for Pirri to receive to the call by Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee he has the opportunity to make an immediate impact playing for Gallant once again.
“I want to be the best hockey player I can be and I know I can play in the NHL.” Pirri told John Dietz of the DailyHerald.
