With less than two minutes to go in the opening period of the contest, Team Finland made a costly turnover and a very opportunistic Dani Cameranesi took the rubber biscuit and walked the puck in a Raty from the left circle and went blocker side for a 2-0 American’s lead.
Cameranesi Takes The Turnover And Goes Blocker On Raty
In the middle frame the American’s would go back to work on Team Finland as they up by two skaters.
Kelly Pannek on Team USA’s 5 on 3 power play sent a feed pass over to Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and did her best Steven Stamkos impersonation as she one timed it past Raty to give the American’s a 3-0 lead.
On their 5 on 4 power play Hilary Knight from her new position on special teams finally recorded her first goal on the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. She connected off of a feed from Sidney Morin and from long range managed to sneak the puck past Raty to double up Team USA’s lead 4-0 on Team Finland.
45 seconds into the 3rd period Team USA was on the power play once again and it featured an all Minnesota Golden Gophers goal as Hannah Brandt and Kessel teamed up on Cameranesi’s second goal of the game. Cameranesi took the pass by Kessel in the slot and went glove side high Raty for a 5-0 lead.
This score would hold as Team USA would punch their ticket to the Gold Medal game that is scheduled to take place this Thursday.
With the 5-0 win against Team Finland, Maddie Rooney earned her first shutout of the 2018 Winter Olympics with her 14 save performance which was less work in comparison to her counterpart on the other end of the ice.
At the end of the contest between Team USA and Team Finland the American’s outshot the Fin’s 38-14.
For Raty on Team Finland’s side of the ice would record her 5th loss lifetime to the American’s in the Winter Olympics Women’s Hockey Tournament on 33 saves.
