Las Vegas–Days removed from the NHL Trade Deadline newly acquired Vegas Golden Knights forward Tomas Tatar had his first full practice at “City National Arena”.
Before coming over to the Golden Knights organization via the NHL Trade Deadline, Tatar spent 7 seasons with the Detroit organization playing with the likes of Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Darren Helm, and Niklas Lidstrom. Over that span he played in 407 games, knotted 115 goals, tallied 107 assists for 222 points and was a +8.
The line’s he spent playing on when he was a member of the Red Wings this season was with Zetterberg, Gustav Nyquist on their top line and then the 2nd with Dylan Larkin and Justin Abdelkader. He produced 16 goals, 12 assists for 28 points thru 63 games and was a -8.
For Tatar being dealt to the Golden Knights, this was his first National Hockey League trade in his playing career so transitioning from one team to another can have a bit of learning curve.
When Head Coach Gerard Gallant held his post practice presser today he mentioned that the expected timetable for Tatar to fully adjust to Golden Knights hockey is 6 to 7 games.
After practice we had the chance to catch up with the newest member of the franchise in Tatar for his thoughts on the transition to Vegas with his new teammates.
“Guys are awesome, they helped me a lot, they make everything easy on me, it felt good to be on the ice, really happy to be here.” Tatar said.
In his first game with the Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena in game two of the back-to-back mini series against the Los Angeles Kings, Tatar for the most part in his debut had a good game overall as he recorded 12:38 of total ice time with 2:55 of that on the power play and recorded 4 shot’s on goal.
For him the chemistry with his new linemates of Cody Eakin and Tomas Hyka was piratically an instant reaction on the ice in his Golden Knights debut in how comfortable he was throughout the Pacific Division rivalry game.
“I felt pretty good, guys helped me, they made it really easy, they told me pretty much where to go, they were talking on the ice, still getting used to the system, so far it’s pretty clear and I feel pretty comfy here.” Says Tatar.
Tatar on getting traded to the Golden Knights from Hockey Town.
“I was really excited to have a chance to be on this team, I was a little surprised, I think it’s everybody when they get traded, the first five minutes brought a little bit of stressful but that was just a joke so I was really happy, I knew few of the guys here in Vegas talked to them, they were really nice to me, after the five minutes I was really happy and excited.” Tatar commented on the trade to Vegas.
With Tatar being a former Red Wing, the Golden Knights have another player on the roster that spent time in Detroit in Tomas Nosek and when it comes the familiarity it’s always good to have that connection when coming over to the new team.
“Obviously it helps he’s a Czech, usually Czechs and Slovaks have a lot in common so it’s nice to have somebody like that here that helps for sure.” Tatar on Nosek.
Nosek has scored 7 goals this season with the Golden Knights and has tallied 5 assists for 12 point in 49 games and it a +5.
