Las Vegas–Today Vegas Golden Knights Head Coach Gerard Gallant has been named by the NHL as a finalist for the 2018 Jack Adams Award.

When the Golden Knights hired Gallant as their bench boss of the newest franchise in the National Hockey League, he was later given a group of players that were left exposed by their former clubs and these guys were labeled as “misfits and castoffs” with a chip on their shoulder.

In the prior season with the Panthers, Gallant was let go by Florida because they posted a 11-10-1 record by the month of November.

After the 3-2 loss by the Carolina Hurricanes both Gallant and Assistant Coach Mike Kelly were seen outside PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC were their bags were packed waiting for a taxi because the Panthers would let not them fly on the team’s charter jet to Chicago.

Gallant has been known to be that type of a coach that approaches things one game at a time and that has paid huge dividends for the 1st year Golden Knights team.

He is also a players coach with has also made things work for Vegas.

The 2017-18 Golden Knights team with Gallant as their bench boss has gone on to break expansion records left and right all season long.

This season with the Golden Knights, Gallant has relished in the success as the team posted an impressive 51-24-7 for 109 points which has never been accomplished before by any previous NHL expansion team in the leagues 100 year’s history.

His coaching style led Vegas to capture their first ever Pacific Division Title in club history when they beat the San Jose Sharks on fan appreciation night by a 3-2 final.

But this is not first time to be a nominee for the said award. In his NHL coaching career, this nomination for the Jack Adams Award is the second time for Gallant.

The last time he received the nod for the award was back in the 2016 campaign where led the Panthers to a very good 47-26-9 at 103 points. Florida also finished 1st place of the Atlantic Division. This was also the Panthers second divisional crown in their franchise history.
