Las Vegas–It is being reported that veteran center Paul Statsny has agreed to a 3-year contract with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Resident Hockey Insider Darren Drager of TSN broke the news of Stastny agreeing to a 3-year deal with the Golden Knights.

According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, Stastny’s contract with the Golden Knights has an AAV of $6.5 million per season. It officially kicks in after 12 p.m. ET.

With the Golden Knights most likely losing forwards James Neal and David Perron to free agency, the signing of Stastny somewhat fills the hole that these two players have left behind.

Last season, Stastny played for both the St. Louis Blues and Winnipeg Jets. In his split time between the two clubs, he scored 16 goals, added 37 assists for 53 points and was +1. In the Stanley Cup Playoffs he was one the Jets top 5 point scorers thru 17 games with six goals, nine assists for 15 points and finished with a +5 rating.

With Stastny he plays both sides of the game and has good playmaking abilities. His passing skills at the center position along with his good vision will help the Golden Knights. Given his 6’0” frame, he plays the game much bigger than his size.

At 32-years of age, this new contract with the Golden Knights could be a bit much but only time will tell if signing Stastny was worth the risk for General Manager George McPhee.
